Peru 2010

Dateline: January 27, 2010

I am on my way to Peru for one month of travel, exploration and adventure. I will be traveling alone and staying mostly at Hostels where I hope to find other travelers from around the world to explore with.  My hope is to do a blog post every day with pictures and maybe even video if I can get enough bandwidth.

Why am I going alone?  The idea for a one month vacation was born about 9 months ago. I knew I was going to have a month accrued vacation by the time Wawona closed this winter, so I thought, why not go somewhere for a whole month?  I'm lucky I can take a whole month's vacation this year and
Macchu Picchu has, for quite some time, been one of my top destinations in the world to see.  After researching my top five destinations and finding that airfare to Peru was much cheaper than the other four, I got my round trip ticket for only $72.00! (after using some airline miles).

I have a semi-planned itinerary with some open time for more-or-less going with the flow.  I will be traveling all over the country from Lima to Lake Titicaca, to Cuzco, into the Amazon rain forest, into Colca Canyon (the deepest land canyon in the world), Macchu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, and a short trip along the coast above Lima.  You'll get to see the sights I see, the people I meet, the food I eat!  Hopefully, you can be an intrepid traveller looking over my shoulder as it were for the next 30 days!

I have been learning about blogging and currently have two blogs I post to on an occasional basis. They are, A Path With Heart (Living Your Life with Passion and Purpose), and Part-Time Vegetarian (Eating Less meat to be healthier).

To sign up to follow my Peru posts, just click on the link to the left on this page that says follow and follow the directions to sign up.  You will then get a link to follow in your email every time I do a blog post. At the bottom of the blog post there is a place where you can make a comment if you wish.

What is this journey I have embarked upon?
What do I hope to  gain by this experience?

Those two questions are forefront in my mind on the first leg of my journey from San Jose to Dallas.  The first question may be partially answered by my outward reason for going; to experience a far and distant land, a different culture, see intriguing sights, hear new sounds, and taste new foods, but the final answer to that question will not come at the end of this journey and will affect the rest of my days, as this journey will undoubtably change me in some way.

The second question, "What do I hope to gain by this experience?", only just now came to my mind.  It was sparked by the words of someone who perhaps knows me well and who wished me a "great spiritual journey."   Although Macchu Picchu is supposed to be one of the most spiritual places on the planet, and uncovering the Spirit in my life has long been a devotion of mine, I hadn´t ever actually seen this trip as any kind of spiritual quest or journey, only a great adventure and the chance to get away and explore the World.

We will see what transpires!!  Stay tuned......
I hope you will sign up to follow my adventures as a desktop traveler!

  1. Have a safe trip Robert. don't walk alone after 11:00pm in lonely places. Take cabs that have known marks and preferably arranged by phone. And careful with peruvian women, they will steal your heart :-)
